CCS2 — the European charging standard
CCS2 is the combined charging connector mandated across the European Union, carrying alternating current in its upper section and direct current through two additional pins below.
The upper part is the Type 2 connector used for slower charging at home and at public posts. The two large pins beneath it carry direct current from a fast charger. One socket therefore covers both cases, which is the whole point of the design and the reason the Union settled on it.
Why it matters when buying
For a car sold through an official European importer this is a non-question: it will have the right socket, because type approval requires it. It becomes a real question for cars brought in outside official channels. Vehicles built for the Chinese domestic market use the GB/T standard, which is neither electrically nor physically compatible, and converting one is not a realistic retrofit.
This is one of the most reliable ways to tell an officially imported car from a parallel import before looking at any paperwork. It is also why the market pages here treat the charging socket as a fact worth recording rather than an assumption.
